The Far North Queensland Coast from the Daintree River to the tip of Cape York has virtually no inhabitants (as low as 1 person per 20 sq. kilometres) therefore the stress on the Great Barrier Reef is very very low. Stress levels on the reef as you travel further south, increase dramatically. This is espiecally true since the Brisbane floods and Cyclone Yasi. Australia's offshore ocean currents sweep up these pollutants and dump it on the beaches and Coral Reef as sediments!
Australian Institute of Marine Science, Dr Katharina Fabricius, warned that the floods that struck Queensland, would affect the reef. Dr Fabricus said the stormwaters that flowed onto the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Corals, could carry nutrients and pollutants, which could disrupt the ecosystem. Corals are very susceptible to pollution but new research, led by Dr Fabricius has shown that extra nutrients can lead to artificially frequent outbreaks of crown-of-thorns star- fish.

Allow 12 hours after the completion of a single dive to go altitude flying or 18 hours if participating in multiple dives.

Minke Whales have arrived!!!!!
Poseidon is extremely pleased to announce we have experienced our first Dwarf Minke Whale sighting for the season!
Poseidon is 1 of only 3 day boats to hold a special permit to allow our passengers into the water to swim and interact with these amazing creatures.
Poseidon was at the second site of the day when two large Minke Whales approached the vessel. Delighted guests put down their lunch and jumped into the water. Holding onto the float line, snorkellers had an experience of a lifetime when the curious Minke's swam in close proximity.
