"Daintree Coast Explorer Packages"

"Daintree Coast to Cooktown Explorer"

6 Nights you will remember forever, your own "dreamtime stories"

We start with a big Welcome to Cow Bay, a cool drink by the pool, and an introductory talk with Eric where we go over the local map so you are aware where everything can be located. First stop is the Daintree Discovery Centre, a great way to learn the history of the world's oldest Rainforest then later dinner at our "Tree Frogs" restaurant will be just the thing to wind down from your journey and charge up for what is to come!

On your 2nd day after breakfast you can explore the ancient rainforest by foot, horse or wire!! Yes wire! Jungle Surfing is not only great fun, but a great way to learn about the forest from the top of the branches where the birds and butterflies live! The sights and smells from way up there are only matched by your heart rate. Jungle Surfing is a must for the Daintree! After a relaxing walk along the Golden sands of Cow bay beach you will no doubt be hungry, you are free to choose your restaurant from many in the area.

Our "Daintree Coast" is 160 kilometres North to South, most is trafficable by conventional car. However the famous "Bloomfield Track" is by 4x4 only!

Day 3 your Tour Guide will arrive to greet you after your breakfast of Exotic fruits, cereal & juice. After introductions, your adventure begins! The "track" is exhilarating as you climb steep hills and traverse clear mountain and coastal creeks and rivers. The rare Southern cassowary is often seen on these trips, in the most pristine and undisturbed Rainforest!

Your tour guide will stop at a private waterhole to "Boil the Billy" (make tea, damper or cake) and you will want to swim in these cool, clear streams. The scenery is breathtaking, especially the walk into "Bloomfield Falls" with local Indigenous Elders from the Kuku Yulangi, talking of their "Dreamtime" stories, "Bush Tucker" and "Bush Medicine".

Photograph opportunities abound with scenes of the azure waters of the Coral Sea, Bloomfield River, Bloomfield Falls, Birds, Reptiles and of course the mysterious Black Mountain (Mountain of death) at the end of the "Track".

Upon arrival at Cooktown you will again be clicking the camera from the vantage point of Donovan's lookout, Grassy Hill and the little bays around Cooktown. After settling into your accommodation, you will have the afternoon free to enjoy some great cafe's, hotels and restaurants as well as explore Cooktown. Must do, is the James Cook Museum, Nature's Powerhouse & Vera Scarf Botanic Gallery (free entries).

Memorable Guurrbi Tours

Day 4 After a relaxing night you will be collected from your accommodation by Nugal-warra Elder "Willie Gordon" with a big beaming smile bright and early in the morning! Willie will enthral you with Aboriginal history and stories about the landscape you are passing through as he drives you in air-conditioned transport to his ancestral rock art sites, high up in the hills outside Hope Vale Aboriginal Community – a journey of about 40 minutes.

Once at the entrance to the sites you leave the vehicle, and Willie leads you through a dramatic landscape to six rock art sites, including the Rainbow Serpent Cave and an ancestral Birth Site. Willie is the story-keeper for the Nugal-warra clan, and at each of the sites he explains the significance of the paintings and the stories behind the art, giving his guests a unique insight into Aboriginal philosophy and spirituality. Along the way you will learn some of the traditional survival techniques of the Nugal-warra people which have ensured their survival for tens of thousands of years.

The tour includes an estimated 30-minute bush walk. There is a short climb to two of the sites, but generally the terrain is easy. Please note that closed footwear is essential - and don’t forget your camera!

On the return trip to your Cooktown accommodation there’s a chance to reflect, and  plenty of time to ask more questions. Willie loves questions! You will understand why he is such a respected “Elder” when you see the passion he has for sharing "His Country" and "His Knowledge" – and he’s great company too!

Late in the afternoon you will be taken to the banks of the Endeavour River for a Sunset Cruise, on the lookout for schools of fish and of course saltwater crocodiles! For dinner you will be spoiled for choice at the magnificent Sovereign Hotel, a true old icon of this coastal town.

Day 5 The next morning you will be picked up by your tour guide for your return to Cow Bay, via the inland road where you will see sprawling vistas of the Savannah country of  the top end which marks the northern point of the great dividing range! You will be told stories of the opening up of this country to Gold mining and cattlemen!

Great Barrier Reef!   It's like floating over a Monet Painting!

Day 6 Welcome back to Cow Bay for the rest of your journey, now is the time to explore the Great Barrier Reef. The snorkeling or diving is second to none on this magnificent marine park. Swim with turtles, Groper, Giant Trevally and even Nemo! The colours and various types of the Reef will astound you as well as the fish and yes, you might see a shark!! no need to fear as it is only a harmless reef shark, but none the less it will make your heart race!

Day 7 Departure  Smiley The last morning,  we send you on you way with a big hearty breakfast (your choice) and perhaps a picture with our pet python, Rebel!!!
