Getting Here - Scenic Coastal Drive

We would suggest to avoid the queue that can sometimes build up to cross the Daintree River Ferry, plan to arrive mid afternoon so as to explore the tropical wilderness in the evening and early mornings. The Daintree River Ferry runs every day from 6.00 AM till 12 Midnight continously, so there is no need to book. Shortened hours on Christmas Day and Good Friday.

The drive up from Cairns takes around 90 minutes via all the weather, sealed, Cape Tribulation road (a 4x4 is not nessesary) The scenery is spectacular as the road hugs the coastline as well as meanders through sugar plantations and thick Rainforest with many small waterfalls.

You will pass through the sugar town of Mossman, were it is only a short drive to Mossman gorge, a stunning site during the wet season.

Continuing from Mossman, take the Cape Tribulation road to the Daintree River Ferry, one of the last cable ferries in Australia. Cow Bay the gateway to the Daintree lies 11kms (8 miles) from the river.

A covered car park is provided for your stay, as there are always birds and bats that seem to enjoy targeting a nice clean car, to drop pieces of fruit on when they return from their foraging in the forest (some of the forest fruits are huge).
