Getting Here - Scenic Coastal Drive

We would suggest to avoid the queue that can sometimes build up to cross the ferry, plan to arrive mid afternoon so as to explore the tropical wilderness in the evening and early mornings. And of course enjoy Cow Bay, located only 90 minutes from Cairns via all the weather, sealed, Cape Tribulation road is the ideal centre to explore the World Heritage listed Daintree National Park where the rainforest meets the reef.

The area known as Cow Bay is named after the Sea Cows or Dugongs that graze on the sea grass meadows in the bay. It is truly a beautiful part of the Daintree, rich in rare flora & fauna from the most colourful butterflies to the endangered Cassowary Australias second largest Bird

The drive up from Cairns is one of the most spectacular ocean drives in Australia, with breathtaking scenery and long golden sandy beaches. You pass through the sugar town of Mossman, were it is only a short drive to Mossman gorge, a stunning site during the wet season.

Continuing from Mossman, take the Cape Tribulation road to the Daintree River Ferry, one of the last cable ferries in Australia. Cow Bay the gateway to the Daintree lies 11kms (8 miles) from the river.

A covered car park is provided for your stay, as there are always birds and bats that seem to enjoy targeting a nice clean car, to drop pieces of fruit on when they return from their foraging in the forest (some of the forest fruits are huge).
