Daintree Swimming holes!
|
The Daintree Coast has some wonderful, intriguing swimming spots in tropical splender! In the summer months October - March we swim in the rivers and streams, when they are warm and free flowing (weather permitting) In the winter months we swim the beaches as the danger from stingers has passed. This even includes swimming in "Stinger net" enclosures, you would not catch us swimming at the beach anywhere in northern Australia from Brisbane Queensland all the way round to Exmouth in Weast Australia! The same goes for southern Australia as I am not keen on sharks either!!
Our annual rainfall of 9 metres (27 feet) allows crystal clear mountain streams to flow down the range, to the flat coastal plains. The Dagmar & Mt Alexander ranges also have springs where underground water from New Guinea also feeds these streams to form majical "blue water" pools. The blue comes from dissovled copper as the water flows through copper laden rock.
These blue holes, are intriguing and very picturesque places to explore. They are home to many fish and fresh water tortises, it is great fun to feed the fish a slice or two of stale bread. Swimming is special in these blue holes.
These "blue holes and fine swimming streams are available all around the area with some very nive ones available whilst doing a 4x4 tour through the rainforest.
